How Much Cake Do I Need?
Choose the right cake size based on your needs

How much cake you need depends on the number of guests you are looking to serve and the portion size. This will determine the size of cake you need. This can be different for Birthday & Celebration cakes and Wedding cakes! Find out what the difference is and how to decide in this blog.
Serving Styles: Dessert Portions or Wedding Portions?
At The Flowering Baker, my cakes are available in different sizes and tiers, in either vanilla or chocolate sponge, with options for a semi-naked or fully covered finish. (Tip: For wedding cakes, I would recommend a fully covered finish to prevent the sponge from drying out if it is displayed for a few hours, particularly in warmer weather.)
There are two types of serving styles: Dessert portions (typically for birthday or celebration events) or Wedding (aka finger) portions. Which serving style should you go for? Find out what the difference is below:
- Dessert portions (approx. 2″ x 2″) are more generous slices, typically rectangular or wedge-shaped.
- Wedding portions are smaller, daintier servings, ideal for formal events and can be served in 1″ x 1″, 1″ x 2″ or even 2″ x 2″ dessert portions. If you’re offering your guests a dessert with your meal, couples usually opt for 1″ x 1″ or 1″ x 2″ slices.
Which Cake Size Do I Need?
Once you have an idea of guests numbers and whether you want dessert portions or wedding portions use my Cake Portion Guides below to help you choose the right cake size. (Tip: It is always best to having more cake than not enough!). All my cakes are round, 3 layers and approximately 5.5″ in height (it will be higher with the addition of buttercream flowers).

The final price will depend on your chosen flavour, sponge coverage, floral style and the level of design intricacy. You can be sure that your cake from The Flowering Baker is as unique and special as your celebration.
My cakes are best eaten on the day, but should there be any left over, it can keep for 2-3 days in an air tight container in the fridge. For more information on how to store your cake, visit my Cake Care Guide.
